I am Alexandra Maxwell.
Alexandra Maxwell is a Russian-American director, producer, screenwriter, photographer, journalist, actress, and multidisciplinary artist based in New York City. Working across narrative film, documentary, commercial, music video, and photography, she has built a career centered on thoughtful visual storytelling and collaborative filmmaking. With experience on independent, commercial, and union productions, Alexandra has developed a diverse body of work that reflects a passion for emotionally driven stories, cinematic imagery, and authentic human connection.
Her films have been recognized at festivals throughout the United States and internationally, earning awards for directing, editing, cinematography, animation, and documentary filmmaking. Her documentary 25 Years Later… screened at festivals including the New York Tri-State International Film Festival, ROMA Short Film Festival, and international festivals in Tokyo, Madrid, and Seoul. Her animated short A Brief History of Fish received Best Animation at the Hollywood Gold Awards, while Heartache earned a Silver Award at the New York Movie Awards. In 2024, her short film Cool Off won Best Student Short Film at the ART IN MOTION Film Festival , Best Editing at the Toronto Indie Filmmakers Festival, and was a Semi-Finalist at the Dumbo Film Festival alongside several additional official selections. Most recently, her short film The Heart of the Game received the Jury's Award for Directing Excellence, Best Acting, Best Cinematography, and the Cinematic Excellence Award over multiple different festivals. While The Classroom that Challenged America was also honored with the Authentic Voices Award at the 2026 Connecticut Digital Media Awards and Awarded First Place in the Feature Story category in the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists’ 2025–2026 Excellence in Journalism College Contest.
In addition to directing, Alexandra regularly works as a producer, photographer, writer, and actress, bringing a well-rounded perspective to every production. She has collaborated with filmmakers, artists, musicians, and brands across a wide range of creative projects, and continues to develop original work that blends strong visual language with compelling storytelling. Her approach is grounded in curiosity, collaboration, and a commitment to creating films that leave a lasting impact on audiences.
